preview of LA Noire:
Rockstar Games announced plans to license and
release "L.A. Noire", a next-generation crime
thriller developed by Brendan McNamara of
recently founded, Australian based studio, Team
Bondi Pty Ltd. "Noire" will be the first title
released, but not developed, under the Take Two/Rockstar
banner since Remedy's "Max Payne" franchise.
Teaming up with Team Bondi was an inevitable and
highly anticipated move, as Sam Howser,
Executive Producer of Rockstar Games explained,
"Brendan and I have known each other for a long
time, and to finally have the opportunity to
work together on a game is exciting. The
longstanding mutual respect and the combined
experience between the two of us make this a
great partnership," added Brendan McNamara, CEO
of Team Bondi.
McNamara, best known as writer and director of
Playstation 2 hit, "The Getaway", created Team
Bondi primarily of former members of the Getaway
team from SCEE's Soho studio in London, and has
an exclusive publishing deal to create titles
for Sony's upcoming Playstation 3 console.
Described as an interactive detective story set
in the classic noir period of Los Angeles in the
late 1940's, "L.A. Noire" promises to interweave
crime-thriller action, police-work detection and
rich, complex storytelling to envelope players
in an open-ended challenge to crack a series of
gruesome murders. Set in a perfectly recreated
City of Angeles before freeways, with a post-war
backdrop of corruption, drugs and jazz, "L.A.
Noire" will truly blur the distinction between
cinema and gaming.
With Rockstar's track record of truly innovative
and immersive gaming and McNamara's reputation
as a top action developer, "L.A. Noire" looks to
be aggressive competition against Xbox360's
exclusive rights to Grand Theft Auto: IV.
Although the tantalizingly brief ten-second
teaser (click
here) hints at a fully black-and-white
film-inspired experience, the jury will remain
hung on details until the official trailer
release from Rockstar on October 5th at
www.rockstargames.com/lanoire.
